May was a busy month for Homestead-Miami Speedway’s STEM Field Trip Program as local schools aimed to take part in the program before sending their students home for the summer. In all, more than 100 students from Pinecrest Cove Academy, Avocado Elementary School and Miccosukee Indian School came to the track for the learn about the intricacies of NASCAR and how the sport relates to the everyday world.
The students learned about the science of auto racing through hands-on projects as well as a tour of the Speedway. After learning about the Three D’s of Speed – drag, drafting and downforce – the students wrapped up their day like any race winner would, with a celebration of their accomplishments in Victory Lane.
The 2018-19 school calendar marked the fourth consecutive year that Homestead-Miami Speedway has hosted its student field trip program. The STEM program is focused on children ages 8-12 and provides an interactive way for students to learn about the core principles of STEM as well as NASCAR.
