On May 15, Homestead-Miami Speedway hosted the Mexican American Council’s 35th Annual Farmworker Student Recognition Ceremony. Since the ceremony began in 1984, it has honored more than 2,000 high school students for their academic accomplishments. This marks the second consecutive year that the Mexican American Council has held the event in the Speedway’s Champions Club.
The ceremony recognized 25 graduating seniors for their commitment to education. The students were presented with scholarships and other awards for academic successes such as honor roll and maintaining perfect attendance. The Mexican American Council also celebrated the students’ families for their continued support of the graduates as they take the next steps in their academic careers.
As a part of the evening’s festivities, every graduate was asked to be accompanied by a rising senior. This has become a staple of the ceremony as the graduating class strives to be an example and provide guidance for the younger students while they prepare for their final year of high school. Miami-Dade County Public Schools representatives and elected officials, including Miami-Dade County Public School Superintendent Alberto Carvalho and Miami-Dade College’s Homestead Campus President Jeanne Jacobs, were also in attendance to see the students honored for their hard work and dedication.
