Montoya Named Most Marketable Driver in the World

South Florida’s Juan Pablo Montoya recently appeared at no. 34 on SportsPro Magazine’s list of the most marketable athletes in the world.  The ranking was the highest of any NASCAR driver, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. (no. 39) the only other driver on the list.  The rankings were selected by representatives from Forbes, BusinessWeek, and Sports Business Journal, as well as other business publications.

New look for IndyCar, Dallara wins the bid

The Italian based Dallara Automobili has been granted the rights to create the new IndyCar chassis to take the track in 2012.  The new chassis will be built with improved safety features as well as more options for owners and teams to customize the cars a little more. Dallara has manufactured the current chassis for the IndyCar series since 2003.

Earnhardt, Montoya, and Johnson Strap on Machine Guns

No, this wasn’t a move of frustration for not winning Saturday night’s Sprint Cup race, but cars in the colors of Juan Pablo Montoya, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Jimmie Johnson took to the streets of downtown Chicago armed with machine guns.  The cars were part of the set for the third installment of the Transformers movie franchise.

In 2012, Homestead-Miami Speedway continues its rich history of sports car racing when the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series returns to South Florida’s road course. The Grand Prix of Miami, set for April 27-29, will feature both the Daytona Prototype and Grand Touring classes in Race 3 of the 2012 GRAND-AM campaign.

For the 11th consecutive year, Homestead-Miami Speedway will serve as host to NASCAR’s Ford Championship Weekend in 2012. South Florida again will be the site when NASCAR crowns its Champions in all three of its top national divisions—the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series— the weekend of Nov. 16-18, 2011.

In addition to hosting high-profile sanctioned events, Homestead-Miami Speedway is “hot” more than 280 days each year in playing host to activities that include: race-car  and manufacturer testing; car-club events; driving schools and ride-along programs; charitable events; film, movie and photo shoots; product launches; motorcycle racing; and the track’s weekly Friday night “T-n-T/Test ’n Tune” car competition that opens up Pit Road to the public as an alternative to illegal street racing.
