South Florida’s own Juan Pablo Montoya showed the most improvement in 2009 in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series by finishing 17 positions higher in the Championship standings than he did the year previous. Montoya is considered a strong contender for the 2010 Sprint Cup Series Championship, which will be crowned at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 21. The NASCAR season kicks off in Daytona with the 2010 Budweiser Shootout complete with new eligibility requirements. The 2010 NASCAR season will conclude at Homestead-Miami Speedway during Ford Championship Weekend Nov. 19-21.

Drivers, teams and sponsors will be racing for more than the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series trophy Nov. 21 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The race will be on for top NASCAR rides, jobs and sponsorship money during NASCAR’s series-crowning Ford Championship Weekend.

Carl Edwards—winner of the 2008 Nationwide Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, as well as the Sprint Cup Ford 400—has emerged as the early favorite to win the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series crown. The series’ trophy won’t simply be handed to Edwards, of course, but some of his biggest rivals—including 2009 Ford 300 Champion Kyle Busch and 2009 Ford 200 winner Kevin Harvick—may choose to run limited Nationwide Series schedules this year, a competition advantage for Edwards.

IndyCar/Championship Weekend (Oct. 1-2): Boca Native Signs with Andretti, Danica Launches NASCAR and Perfume Line, “Kellie Gearbox” to Try Stock Car Racing…

The IZOD Indy Car Series has created a program to advance young, career-minded race drivers into the IndyCar Series with an ultimate goal of capturing a Championship, which again in 2010 will be crowned at Homestead-Miami Speedway (Oct. 2).

The IndyCar Series future of Boca Raton-native Ryan Hunter-Reay IndyCar Series appears to have gotten a bit brighter, as he recently joined Andretti Autosport (alongside Key Biscayne’s Tony Kanaan) to run a limited schedule in 2010.

IndyCar Series veteran/NASCAR newbie Danica Patrick long has been considered a fashionista, and this spring she will launch her line of perfume.

South Florida-resident Helio Castroneves will have a third teammate for the entire 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series campaign, which will crown its 2010 Champion at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Oct. 2.

Miami resident and “Speed Racer” movie actress Milka Duno is preparing to make her stock car debut. The popular Venezuelan driver finished 17th in the Firestone Indy 300 in Miami last fall.

Sarah Fisher Racing-driver Jay Howard will compete in January’s inaugural Championship Karting International (CKI) Florida Cup at the Homestead-Miami Speedway Karting Facility.

Pippa Mann has signed to drive with one of the best teams in the Firestone Indy Lights Series in 2010, her sophomore season in the series. She drove to her career best finish of eighth at Homestead-Miami Speedway during the Championship finale in October.

Grand-Am/Grand Prix of Miami (March 6): $20 Tix, Patrick Dempsey to Double His Pleasure in 2010, Hialeah Native to Race at Homestead-Miami…

The Grand Prix of Miami is set for March 6 at Homestead-Miami Speedway and will feature some of the top sports car racers in the world. The Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series—which last fall at Homestead-Miami delivered one of the closest Championship finishes in series history—attracts a driver lineup from worldwide racing disciplines, counting amongst its alumni NASCAR Champions Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch; IndyCar Champions Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon; and South Florida-residents Juan Pablo Montoya (NASCAR Sprint Cup contender) and Helio Castroneves (three-time Indy 500 winner-turned-“Dancing with the Stars” Champion); as well as “Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey. This two-hour, 45-minute battle of man and machine will play out on the highly demanding 2.3-mile road course at Homestead-Miami Speedway. “Dr. McDreamy” of Dempsey Racing will double his assault on a GT Class Championship in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.

Bobby Labonte—2003 Homestead-Miami Ford 400 winner and 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion—will race in the Rolex 24 at Daytona Jan. 30-31. The Racer’s Group has joined forces with Flying Lizard Motorsports to create a super team for the 24 hour classic. Andy Lally also re-signed with TRG to be a full-time driver in 2010, including the Grand Prix of Miami ($20) that takes place March 6at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Miami resident and 2009 IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year Rafa Matos will join a star-studded Brumos Racing lineup for the Rolex 24 at Daytona on Jan. 30-31. Click here for a review of Rafa’s IndyCar season.

Orlando resident Ricky Taylor impresses Miami’s own Ozz Negri in GRAND-AM testing at Daytona. Taylor’s father, Wayne, founded SunTrust Racing in the Rolex Sports Car Series. The Grand Prix of Miami ($20) will take place March 6 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Hialeah’s Terry Borcheller will run the full 2010Daytona Prototype season in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, including the stop at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 6. The car will be prepared by several key personnel from the Brumos team that claimed victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway in October.

In 2012, Homestead-Miami Speedway continues its rich history of sports car racing when the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series returns to South Florida’s road course. The Grand Prix of Miami, set for April 27-29, will feature both the Daytona Prototype and Grand Touring classes in Race 3 of the 2012 GRAND-AM campaign.

For the 11th consecutive year, Homestead-Miami Speedway will serve as host to NASCAR’s Ford Championship Weekend in 2012. South Florida again will be the site when NASCAR crowns its Champions in all three of its top national divisions—the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series— the weekend of Nov. 16-18, 2011.

In addition to hosting high-profile sanctioned events, Homestead-Miami Speedway is “hot” more than 280 days each year in playing host to activities that include: race-car  and manufacturer testing; car-club events; driving schools and ride-along programs; charitable events; film, movie and photo shoots; product launches; motorcycle racing; and the track’s weekly Friday night “T-n-T/Test ’n Tune” car competition that opens up Pit Road to the public as an alternative to illegal street racing.
