Homestead-Miami Speedway will be featured in the February 26 episode of Top Gear. Following last November’s Ford Championship Weekend, the speedway hosted BBC Worldwide Productions for filming of its hit show. The episode will air at 9 p.m. ET tonight on HISTORY featuring 2010 Ford 400 race winner Carl Edwards.
The episode will review the newest supercar to come out of the United Kingdom--the McLaren MP4-12C, and see how it stacks up against a good old American NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car. Edwards was behind the wheel of his familiar No. 99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford Fusion. The guys also head to Las Vegas on a quest to create the ultimate taxi, aiming to keep both driver and passengers happy. After getting some experience riding along with real cabbies, they reveal their creations, put them through a series of tests and then hit the Las Vegas strip to see who can get the most tips.
“We are excited to again branch out into primetime television with the track’s debut on one of my favorite shows – Top Gear,” said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Matthew Becherer. “I’m really looking forward to seeing how the raw power of a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car measures up to the agility of one of the world’s most exotic supercars.”
Homestead-Miami Speedway will return to the spotlight this November 15-17 for Ford Championship Weekend when NASCAR will crown champions in the Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Camping World Truck Series.
The History Channel summarizes its TV hit this way:
One of the UK's most popular series since 1977, Top Gear now brings its high-adrenaline action entertainment to America. Top Gear delves into the colorful history of the automobile and showcases an offbeat celebration of the art of driving, featuring super-cars, extreme stunts and challenges, car reviews and celebrity interviews, as well as the eccentric adventures of its hosts with Top Gear's customary wit and humor. Hosted by comedian and car buff Adam Ferrara, champion rally and drift racer Tanner Foust and racing analyst Rutledge Wood, Top Gear explores the history of America, one lap at a time.
