SPEEDWAY TO HOST SECOND ANNUAL LAWNMOWER RACE
Homestead-Miami Speedway will again host the Arc of South Florida Lawnmower Race on Saturday, January 26, at 10:00 a.m. Homestead-Miami Speedway President Matthew Becherer made the announcement.
Participants will race modified lawnmowers provided by Joe Blair Garden Supply and Homestead Mower Center in Miami. Registration is now open to all and will remain so until January 18. To register for the second-annual Arc of South Florida Annual Lawnmower Race, please click here. Entry forms can be sent to Rick Pace at 5555 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, Florida,33137.
Proceeds from the event, which is open to the general public, benefit The Arc of South Florida – an organization that provides assistance to individuals with physical and mental disabilities.
“It’s an honor to host Arc of South Florida and this race,” said Becherer. “While we host a wide variety of events, this one is special because it makes a positive difference in our community and is among the most unique activities that we have at the track.”
“It is a great pleasure to once again have Homestead-Miami Speedway sponsor our second annual Lawnmower Race,” said program assistant of the Arc of South Florida Rick Pace. “I hope many will come to this fun event and support the Arc of South Florida and help the many persons in Dade County with developmental and intellectual disabilities.”
Racers can register in the individual race division for a $25 entry fee. The individual category will be comprised of four-person heats. The first rider to complete one lap around a 1/8 mile track will be declared the heat winner. Heat winners will square off against each other in a run-off to determine the individual race winner.
Teams are invited to compete in relay-style heat races against other teams. A team entry costs $250 for four riders that race relay-style with each taking a turn behind the wheel.
The races will feature Pit Stop Challenges. Racers in the individual and team classes will be required to stop at various Pit Stops located throughout the track. Each pit stop features a local business and will be staffed by the organization’s employees. Riders will be required to complete a designated activity at each pit stop before moving on. Pit Stop Challenge sponsors will be afforded a complimentary team entry.
In addition to the individual and team trophies, prizes will be awarded to the Top Individual Money Raiser and the Top Business Money Raiser.
