South Florida residents have the unique opportunity to get their car washed on Pit Road at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and then take a lap in their personal vehicle around the track. Proceeds from Car Wash and Ride, set for this Friday (August 10) from noon-9:00 p.m., will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Homestead-Miami Speedway’s recently launched charitable arm, Driving for a Cause.
Participants can have their car washed for a $10 donation, which provides the opportunity to take their newly-cleaned autos around the track. Cars will be led by the official Homestead-Miami Speedway pace car. Additional laps can be purchased for $10 per lap.
Car cleaning will be at the track’s Pit Road from noon-5:00 p.m., and then move into the garage area to make room for Speedway T-n-T, the regular Friday night drag racing event along the 1/8-mile Pit Road. The car wash will conclude at 9:00 p.m., while T-n-T goes until midnight. Car wash participants should enter via Gate 18.
ESPN Deportes Radio (AM 1210) will be on-hand with its promotional van distributing prizes, while Fuze juice drinks will have samples available for car wash participants.
“We are thrilled to team with Cystic Fibrosis to benefit two worthy charities and we hope folks take advantage of this special opportunity to drive the same track that hosts NASCAR’s championships,” said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Matthew Becherer. “It’s a perfect event to launch our newly-named foundation, Driving for a Cause. While the track has a nearly 20-year record of philanthropy, we are focusing our efforts on financial and in-kind donations to local youth and educational efforts.”
Driving for a Cause will operate under the auspices of the NASCAR Foundation as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. Homestead-Miami Speedway will continue each of its charitable activities including its in-kind donations to local groups, support of Homestead Hospital’s Speediatrics unit, and its program where organizations can work track events in exchange for a donation to their group or cause.
