Call for Nominations!

10 Years of NASCAR Championships

Homestead-Miami Speedway in conjunction with the NASCAR Foundation are soliciting local nominations for the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award. As part of The NASCAR Foundation’s NASCAR Unites campaign, the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award has been established to pay tribute to Mrs. France’s philanthropic efforts and to local humanitarian advocates who share the same spirit of generosity and commitment to children.

“Since 2006, The NASCAR Foundation has been inspired by the selfless dedication of our NASCAR fans to improve the lives of the children,” said Betty Jane France. “We have champions in every community and we are thrilled to recognize them with this Humanitarian Award.”

The goal is to nominate individuals from Homestead and the South Florida communities who have shown a spirit of volunteerism in their support of children causes. The NASCAR Foundation has worked with fans to help children lead happier and healthier lives. At the heart of NASCAR’s efforts is Foundation Chairperson, Betty Jane France, whose dedication to The NASCAR Foundation and nonprofit partners is inspirational.

As evidence of NASCAR’s commitment to South Florida, Homestead Hospital is one of two hospitals in the country to boast Speediatrics, the Betty Jane France Children’s Emergency Room that is financially supported by Homestead-Miami Speedway, NASCAR and community donations. Through these efforts, more than a $1 million has been raised for Speediatrics, the only dedicated pediatric unit in the southernmost region of Miami-Dade County.

“Our region is home to scores of philanthropic efforts to better the lives of children. This is a chance to recognize and elevate those selfless individuals who make a difference in the lives of children here in South Florida,” said track president Matt Becherer. “It would be fantastic to see a local person win $25,000 or $100,000 for their deserving charity.”

The award winner will be based on nominations of individuals by submitting a short story about the community work and focus on supporting children’s charities done by the nominee. The criteria that will determine the winner include their involvement with children’s causes, community impact, and dedication.

From the pool of applicants, four finalists will be selected and each will receive a $25,000 donation to a children’s charity of their choice, a trip to a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in October and be part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Week in Las Vegas, where the winner will be announced and presented the award from Betty Jane France. The text-to-vote and online vote campaign will narrow the pool to a single award-winner. The winner will receive a $100,000 donation from The NASCAR Foundation to their children’s charity and a 2012 Ford Explorer.
