Fans welcome to bring coolers measuring 14x14x14—six times the previous size limit
Homestead-Miami Speedway today announced that it has adjusted its bring-your-own food/beverage policy to allow fans to enter the Speedway with soft-sided coolers measuring up to 14x14x14 inches—six times the previous dimension limits (6x6x12 inches). The new policy went into effect for NASCAR’s Ford Championship Weekend (Nov. 19-21), as well as for all major racing events hosted by Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Coolers of this size typically have a removable plastic liner and are designed to hold 24 to 36 cans of beverages. Hard-sided coolers, and coolers with telescoping handles and wheels, will not be permitted. In addition to the soft-sided cooler, fans also may carry in one lightweight backpack—similar to those worn by school students—to carry items such as cameras and souvenirs.
“Tailgating is synonymous with NASCAR’s Ford Championship Weekend, so we like the idea of inviting our fans to bring elements of that tailgate right inside our gates,” said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Matthew Becherer. “We’re in effect telling the fans: ‘Pick up a race ticket to see NASCAR Champions crowned at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and between the free parking and our bring-your-own policy, you’re looking at a very affordable day at the track.’”
Indeed, Homestead-Miami Speedway offers fans FREE parking and unlimited re-entry to the parking lots from the grandstands to restock their coolers. Because fan comfort and safety remains a top priority, all items carried into the speedway will be subject to a thorough and complete search by security personnel prior to entering the ticket gates.
