On Saturday, March 6, Homestead-Miami Speedway will host the “Grand Prix of Miami,” and the winner of Race 2 of the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series will take home a very unique prize: a Paul Reed Smith (PRS) Guitar.

In advance of race weekend, PRS Guitars, Homestead-Miami and the Speedway Girls will gather Feb. 27 at Guitar Center Hallandale with racing and rhythmic entertainment and education for “PRS Tech Day,” where owners of PRS guitars can drop in for a free setup with PRS’ in-house artist tech.

The GRAND-AM Daytona Prototype race car also will be on site at Guitar Center, as well as GRAND-AM’s official interactive FanZone. PRS will have the trophy and sweepstakes guitars on site, in addition to representatives to answer questions and demonstrate PRS products, including electric guitars, acoustics and amplifiers.


Homestead Chili Cook-Off  (and Outhouse Races!)– 12 noon - 4 p.m.

The 16th annual Super Chili Bowl Cook-off (and Outhouse Races!) will feature the GRAND-AM FanZone, GRAND-AM drivers and Homestead-Miami Speedway staff. Proceeds will benefit PATCHES and the Prime Outlets of Florida City. PATCHES is a state-licensed facility providing daily medical treatment to children with extreme medical needs, as well as education for parents and caregivers. The staff at Homestead-Miami Speedway spread holiday cheer for deserving children at PATCHES nursing center in Florida City during the holidays. The non-profit organization is an alternative to in-patient hospital care and the isolation of home care.

Sunday, Feb. 28

Inaugural Championship Karting International (CKI) Florida Cup
Formula Auto Racing Association

The Championship Karting International (CKI) Florida Cup is a three-round series at Homestead Karting (on property at Homestead-Miami Speedway) that awards more than $130,000 in purse value, including a 2010 Mazda 3. Round 2 takes place Feb. 26-28.

Teams from around the world are scheduled to compete, including IndyCar Series Champion Dan Wheldon (2005) and IRL colleagues Vitor Meira and Jay Howard. More info can be found at HomesteadKarting.net.

On the oval at Homestead-Miami Speedway, FARA will run its races for amateur drivers who compete with experienced pilots in every class (more info: faraUSA.com). GRAND-AM’s official interactive FanZone will be on site at the weekend events at Homestead-Miami Speedway.


Wednesday, March 3

Grand Prix “Pre-Party”/Happy Hour – 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Homestead-Miami Speedway kicks “Grand Prix of Miami” week into high gear with the “Grand Prix Pre-Party” at Monty’s South Beach from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Grand-Am Racing drivers will be on hand to greet fans and admission is FREE.

At Monty’s, fans also will have a chance to win race tickets to the March 6 Grand Prix of Miami, as well as race-day Pace Car rides and an “Honorary Pit Crew” experience. Tickets for the March 6 “Grand Prix of Miami” will be on sale at Monty’s and are just $20 with all kids 12 and under admitted FREE of charge.

Grand-Am drivers scheduled to appear throughout Happy Hour include: South Florida-based drivers Gian Luis Bacardi, Sylvain Tremblay; as well as Ryan Dalziel, Matt Bell, Dion von Moltke, Josh Hurley, Matt Plumb, Jon Fogarty

Wednesday, March 3

Xtreme Indoor Karting to host a karting event and car show scheduled to feature GRAND-AM drivers Ian James, Bill Lester, Kayla Graham, Andre Serra and Toby Grahovec.  GRAND-AM’s official interactive FanZone will be on site, as well as the “Miami Caliente” Girls and the Big 105.9 promotions team. 


Thursday, March 4

Homestead-Miami Speedway “Haiti Drop-N-Drive” – 5:00- 8:00 p.m.

Homestead-Miami Speedway—alongside partners Thunder Country 100.3, Grand-Am Racing, Florida’s Blood Centers and Keg South of Homestead—will kick Haitian earthquake-relief efforts into overdrive Thursday, March 4, with the Homestead-Miami Speedway “Drop-N-Drive.” From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., donors are invited to enter the Homestead-Miami Speedway infield to “Drop” Haitian earthquake-relief items and proceed to the Turn 1 oval entry and “Drive” their own vehicles on two guided laps encompassing both the Grand-Am road course (2.3 miles) and the NASCAR/IndyCar 18-to-20 degree variable-banked oval (1.5 miles).

Grand-Am drivers competing in the Saturday, March 6, “Grand Prix of Miami” will be on hand to meet fans and help with the collection effort. The world-class, sports-car drivers also will join Dougie Hitchcock of Thunder Country radio (100.3), who will be hosting a live broadcast of his popular “Octane Hour” motorsports show from the infield “Drop” area. Grand-Am drivers scheduled to appear include Matt Plumb, Matt Bell, Guy Cosmo and Jon Fogarty.

Saturday, March 6

Grand-Am Sports Car Series Driver Autograph Session – 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Located at the Pavilion on the Grandstand side of the track, the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series will provide autographs for ticketed race fans free of charge.
