Homestead-Miami Speedway and NextEra Energy Resources—a subsidiary of Florida-based FPL Group—have announced a partnership under which the 2009 series-crowning Championship finales of the IndyCar, Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car and Firestone Indy Lights Series will be title-sponsored the “NextEra Energy Resources SpeedJam Championships.” Set for Oct. 9-10 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, tickets for the 2009 series-crowning championships go on sale April 20, via www.HomesteadMiamiSpeedway or by calling (866) 409-RACE.

North America’s largest provider of renewable energy from the wind and sun, NextEra Energy Resources also becomes the Official Renewable Energy Provider of Homestead-Miami Speedway. As part of the arrangement, Homestead-Miami Speedway parent-company International Speedway Corporation will purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) from NextEra Energy Resources that will help to fund a number of renewable energy projects, including the development of wind and solar energy plants.

Said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Curtis Gray: “What an opportunity it is to partner with NextEra Energy Resources in promoting renewable-energy efforts to race fans during the IndyCar/Grand-Am Championship Weekend. The environmental significance of this partnership is something that benefits all of South Florida.”

It’s motorsports history in 2009 as Homestead-Miami Speedway becomes the first venue ever to host all of North America’s premier motorsports championships: the IndyCar, Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car and Firestone Indy Lights Series during the NextEra Energy Resources SpeedJam Championships (Oct. 9-10); and NASCAR’s Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series during Ford Championship Weekend (Nov. 20-22).
