The "Ultimate NASCAR Experience" for Ford Championship Weekend VIPs
Homestead-Miami Speedway partners provide "opportunity of a lifetime"—complete with unprecedented infield access—via charity raffle
Call it an impulse buy. Steve and Cire Shiver—co-chairs of the Pineapple Gala, an annual fundraiser presented by Homestead-Miami Speedway to benefit children's services at Homestead Hospital—recently purchased the ultimate in recreational vehicles (RVs): the Allegro Bus Nasa, a 43-ft. behemoth that sleeps five comfortably; has a complete kitchen with gas stove, oven, microwave and dishwasher; a free standing dinette; a huge living area that includes seven-foot ceilings with recessed lighting; hand-crafted cabinetry; and a 32-inch front overhead LCD TV with DVD player and surround sound.
"We rented one during spring break this year," Steve said. "We liked it so much we bought one on the way home."
As part of the Pineapple Gala fundraiser, the Shivers have teamed up with Homestead-Miami Speedway and the Homestead Hospital Foundation to raffle off a NASCAR "opportunity of a lifetime" during Ford Championship Weekend, Nov. 16-18, 2007, at Homestead-Miami Speedway
The public now has an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for the race package. Each ticket costs $100, and a strict limit of 300 tickets will be sold.
"We are really excited about the upcoming online auction and our Gala," Steve said. "This year's event committee is working extremely hard to offer unique and unprecedented opportunities for us to raise funds and help ensure a happy and healthy future for the children of our community."
The raffle winner will be provided with the RV, VIP credentials for four and a very exclusive and unique location: The vehicle will be parked on the Speedway's infield—not accessible, at any price, to NASCAR fans or ticket-holders. This "special lot" is adjacent to the lot reserved exclusively for drivers, and provides access to the pit area as well as trackside seating from which the lucky raffle winners can enjoy the race.
"We are really excited," said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Curtis Gray. "This special VIP package we've put together with Homestead Hospital Foundation provides unprecedented access throughout Ford Championship Weekend. And the special Speedway credentials entitle the raffle winners to exclusive access of our facility all weekend—something we've never done in the past. It truly is the opportunity of a lifetime for a few lucky NASCAR fans."
"Homestead Hospital Foundation is extremely grateful for the generous donations from Steve & Cire Shiver, as well as the continued support from the Speedway," said Thomas Schramm, Homestead Hospital Foundation Director.
The Pineapple Gala is one of Homestead Hospital Foundation's flagship fundraising events and benefits children's services at Homestead Hospital, including The Betty Jane France Pediatric Center known as "Speediatrics." This dedicated unit at Homestead Hospital is designed with a motorsports theme, with the special décor intended to ease the fears of children during a stay at Homestead Hospital.
This year's Pineapple Gala is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This year, Gala guests will be taken on a nostalgic journey back to the days of soldiers and swing. The evening will feature big band music, swing dancing, dining and other exciting entertainment—all done in the context of the 1940s. Since its inception eight years ago, the Pineapple Gala has raised almost $1 million for children's services at the hospital.
