On April 15 Kurt Kossmann will be ready to compete on Homestead-Miami Speedway's 2.3-mile road course, just like the other talented drivers entered in the Grand Am Koni Challenge. Unlike other drivers, however, Kossmann has already faced and won a much more serious battle - against cancer.

In 1988, Kossmann lost his left leg to cancer and was given a 30% chance of survival. He not only beat the disease after 13 months of chemotherapy, but was able to design and construct his own artificial leg for racing. This enables him to operate the clutch flawlessly and has allowed him to continue on to racing success. What many would consider a handicap has not slowed Kossmann down on or off the track.

Since beating cancer, Kossmann has gone on to race in the Formula Ford 1600, Porsche Turbo Cup, Formula 2000, Barber Pro Series, and most recently SCCA Rally, Rotax Max FR 125 Kart series, and the Honda Michelin Challenge. This weekend he will compete in his first Koni Challenge, along with his teammate Tyler Givogue.

"We are really looking forward to the Grand Am Koni Challenge race this weekend at Homestead," said Kossmann. "I've always enjoyed and been very successful racing in South Florida throughout my career. The Homestead facilities and track are top notch, making this a great opportunity for me and Team Predator Auto Sport to have a successful weekend in our Chevy Cobalt SS."

The Grand Am Koni Challenge Series comes to Homestead-Miami Speedway, April 13-15.
